30 Days of Esther: Day 29

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."4:5 - James

Mordecai is the picture of godly wisdom and humility. Haman put the needs and interests of others far beyond his own. Before his ward entered into danger she specifically requested that he fast and pray for her. This is because Mordecai had a reputation as being one to come before the throne of the Lord with great effect. He notified the king of the evil plot against him, and when the king neglected to reward him, Mordecai still served the king faithfully.
Being godly will often invite scorn from those that choose to serve mammon.
"Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you." - I John 3:13

Haman was the picture of pride and self-importance. His actions were only motivated by self-promotion. Because he disregarded the things of the Lord and followed his own heart, the seed of hate and bitterness filled his heart. This eventually was his undoing and the man that he hated more than any other took his place and fulfilled his dreams.
Humility vs. Pride
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18
